textures of st. lucia

check out some of the textures i found inspiring on our recent trip to st. lucia. cinder blocks and dead leaves aren't the first things to comes to mind when exploring and island paradise but i just couldn't help myself. the light was great down there and the below subject matter lent itself to make some fun imagery.

iphone imagery

i still find myself taking plenty of pictures with the iphone. they are pictures i would not normally be taking and are always a product of circumstance. regardless, it is still a fun medium and my blog is a perfect place to share them with you.

eastern washington

here are a few pictures from the labor day weekend. we headed east in search of sun, we found it and as it turns out neither stephanie or i are fans of hot dry weather. it was still fun to get out of the city for a few days and be outdoors.

HECTOR THE COLLECTOR

Hector the Collector
Collected bits of string,
Collected dolls with broken heads
And rusty bells that would not ring.
Pieces out of picture puzzles,
Bent-up nails and ice-cream sticks,
Twists of wires, worn-out tires,
Paper bags and broken bricks.
Old chipped vases, half shoelaces,
Gatlin' guns that wouldn't shoot,
Leaky boats that wouldn't float
And stopped-up horns that wouldn't toot.
Butter knives that had no handles,
Copper keys that fit no locks,
Rings that were too small for fingers,
Dried-up leaves and patched-up socks.
Worn-out belts that had no buckles,
'Lectric trains that had no tracks,
Airplane models, broken bottles,
Three-legged chairs and cups with cracks.
Hector the Collector
Loved these things with all his soul‹
Loved them more than shining diamonds,
Loved them more than glistenin' gold.
Hector called to all the people,
"Come and share my treasure trunk!"
And all the silly sightless people
Came and looked...and called it junk.

that pretty much sums up being a still-life photographer and being inspired by all that is around you. below are some "treasures" from my found series, these relics were collected on a recent trip to eastern washington. more to come.

jurassic leaf

my neighbor has this tree with the largest leaves and i'm not sure what type of tree it is. when the leaves fall off and curl up they have a very jurassic quality to them. this is the first image of a soon to be series of found objects. happy fall...
