light and composition

i purchased these glasses on a recent trip to LA, they are hand blown and in the style of cheap plastic cups. of all the places, i found them at a vintage lighting store on melrose and determined they were a must have. the store was funny, they sold antique lighting, vintage filson clothing and these glasses. the image below was a fun test to get my head around, it is the perfect balance of ultra soft light and really hard light and is the product of last weeks set photos via social media.

aged french oak pt.1

i purchased an old french oak barrel as a prop for an upcoming project and was pleasantly surprised by by its inner beauty. it was interesting to see the crystalized sugars stuck to the barrel, which combined with the stained wood made for a few unexpected images.

beat up converse

worn out but looking good.. a nice addition to the ever expanding body of personal work.

bloody delicious

a good bloody is an art form. it is a balance of flavor, spice, and vodka and really is the perfect feel good drink of the morning (aside from coffee). like a martini, a bad one is not even worth drinking but a good one can be quite a memorable experience.

expired foods

i really enjoy watching how things transform, the process of moving from one state to another has always interested me. i generally keep cut flowers long past their expiration date as i think there is something equally beautiful about their decomposed state. the below imagery was the result of some left over food from a shoot last month that spent a little too much time on the counter. as they say, when life hands you lemons..

"the new seattle breakfast"

some of my images are gracing the pages of the march issue of the seattle met. they are for the story "the new seattle breakfast" and are a graphic representation of what is considered the most important meal of the day. i had the pleasure of working with food stylist jean galton and design director andré mora and was very pleased with the work produced over the course of one very long day.

grandfathers camera

i was compelled to do a simple test the other day of my grandfathers camera which i keep displayed in the studio. i have found myself doing a lot of these lately, they are mainly exercises in composition and simple experiments with the new camera.
